Lake Charles employees make lasting impact on Global Care Day

LyondellBasell Lake Charles Polymers Plant and Louisiana Integrated PolyEthylene Joint Venture employees and their families demonstrated the impact of collective action, as planted Live Oak seedlings at Tuten Park and full size Crepe Myrtles and Live Oaks along the 1st Avenue Walking Path on Sept. 18 for the company’s 22nd annual Global Care Day, a company-wide day of service.

“For us, giving back is not limited to a season – we are dedicated to making a difference year-round,” said Greg Gray, site manager, LyondellBasell Polymers Plant. “Building strong communities starts with each of us. I’m so proud of the heart and passion our employees have for this community.”

Many of this year’s Global Care Day efforts were inspired by World Cleanup Day, which was on Sept. 18, and centered around sustainability. LyondellBasell volunteers from around the world cleaned up plastic waste and litter from beaches, waterways and parks, as well as planted trees and gardens and educated school-aged children about sustainability.

In Lake Charles, employees and their families had the opportunity to work with the City of Lake Charles and Mr. Bob from Bob’s Trees to revitalize areas of the community that were severely impacted from Hurricane Laura in 2020. Mr. Bob spoke to the volunteers about soil health, the importance of taking care of our environment and even provided Southern Magnolia seeds for everyone to grow their own plants at home.

“Hurricane Laura struck a devastating blow to our community in so many ways, but one of the most visually shocking is the loss of trees throughout the City,” said Mayor Nic Hunter, City of Lake Charles. “We are so appreciative of LyondellBasell and their employees for their commitment to helping bring back some of these trees as part of their Global Care Day program this year.”

Global Care Day began in 2000 to encourage worldwide volunteerism in the communities where LyondellBasell operates. Since 2018, LyondellBasell employees have spent more than 43,000 hours enriching their communities during Global Care Day.
