Employees clean up Corpus Christi highways

More than a dozen volunteers from the Corpus Christi plant participated in the 11th annual Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off in April. Volunteers picked up litter along the plant’s adopted highway, a two-mile stretch on McKinzie Road, adjacent to the plant entrance.

"Doing our part to keep Texas roadways clean and litter-free is a simple way to preserve our environment," said Environmental Engineer John Bloom. "We want our community to know that Lyondell cares about all aspects of the environment – from reducing emissions to ridding our roadways of litter."

The Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off is an annual event that encourages Texans across the state to join forces to clean up Texas roadsides. In 2006, more than 16,518 volunteers participated, collecting 28,289 bags of trash in one day. It is the single largest one-day cleanup event in the state.

The Trash-Off is part of the Texas Department of Transportation litter prevention program, which includes Don’t Mess with Texas, Adopt-a-Highway and a grassroots partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful.
