“Outstanding Proud Partner”

Houston Mayor Bill White recently honored the employees of Lyondell with the presentation of the “2006 Mayor’s Outstanding Proud Partner Award.”  Lyondell CEO Dan Smith accepted the award from Mayor White on behalf of all Lyondell employees, in recognition of the tremendous contributions that they have made through their volunteerism in communities around the world.

Sponsored by Keep Houston Beautiful, the Mayor’s Proud Partner Awards recognize the extraordinary efforts of community and corporate volunteers who have made a positive impact on Houston’s environment.

“Lyondell Chemical Company and its 4,000-plus local employees have a long history of helping improve the environment, enhance quality of life and contribute to making Houston a cleaner and better place to live,” said local TV newsman Jose Grinan, master of ceremonies. “In addition to providing financial support to these organizations, the company takes great pride in seeing employee volunteers physically invest in the community.”

Lyondell was recognized for community enhancement and environmental education efforts, including:

• Its long history of helping improve the environment, enhancing quality of life and contributions to making Houston a cleaner and better place to live.
• The nine Global Care Day projects in the Houston area in 2006.  This included construction of an observation deck along the banks of Buffalo Bayou for watching the estimated 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats that roost in the expansion joints on the underside of the bridge at Waugh Drive.
• The trash cleanup along Buffalo Bayou with The Park People and Keep Houston Beautiful as part of the first annual Trail of Trash cleanup and construction of a nature center at the University of Houston Clear Lake for The Environmental Institute of Houston.
