Lyondell receives business partnership awards

Describing Lyondell as "the company that never says ‘no’," Clear Creek Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Sandra Mossman recently awarded Lyondell its 2007 Business Partnership Award in recognition of the company’s exceptional support of the district through funding and volunteerism. The school district is location southeast of Houston, Texas, near the Bayport industrial district.

Lyondell always comes through on anything we need," Mossman said. "They have played a vital role in supporting science and environment programs district-wide.

Mossman presented the award to Lyondell during the district’s annual Partnership and Volunteer Breakfast. As a partner with the district, Lyondell provides support for teachers and students that helps ensure the educational excellence the community deserves and rightfully demands.

At the same event, a resolution from the Texas House of Representatives was presented, commending "Lyondell and its public-spirited employees" for their noteworthy support of CCISD. Texas State Rep. Larry Taylor’s office presented Lyondell with the honor.

This is the second community award Lyondell has received in the Houston Bay Area in less than two months. In late March, the University of Houston-Clear Lake presented the company with its 2007 Community Partnership Award.

Lyondell has supported several CCISD programs, including:

• Sponsoring a field trip aboard the BaySmart cruise for students of Ed White Elementary School so they could explore birds, wildlife and marshlands of the Gulf Coast.
• Volunteering for Roundtable with the Wizards, Evening with the Engineers, Super Sci-Tech Saturday, and Career Discovery Day, all of which encourage students to pursue studies and careers in science, math and technology.
• Providing funding for Super Sci-Tech Saturday.
• Providing volunteers and funding to build a habitat for the students of G.W. Robinson Elementary School.
• Providing funds and volunteers for the robotics team at CCISD’s science magnet school, Seabrook Intermediate.
• Providing scholarships at Clear Lake High School.
