Bayport plant supports Envirothon students

Lyondell volunteers got a glimpse of some of the best and brightest students in Texas when they judged the Texas State Envirothon Competition, North America's largest and most academically challenging high school environmental competition.

Lyondell’s Bayport Choate plant in Texas sponsored the team of students from Clear Lake High School’s Advanced Placement environmental classes, providing for the team’s tools, entry fee and team shirts. In addition, employees volunteered as judges for the event.

Through several months of study, students prepare for testing on wildlife biology, forestry, aquatics, soil science, and current environmental issues. Teams work together to answer knowledge-based questions in outdoor field-testing stations and also apply that knowledge to solve real-life problems.

“On behalf of the entire Clear Creek Independent School District, I thank Lyondell for its ongoing support of our school district,” wrote Stephen Moncla, AP environmental science teacher at CLHS. “Lyondell’s generosity helped students from elementary to high school explore opportunities and participate in activities that perhaps would not be available to them otherwise.”
