Volunteers bring sparkle to Corpus Christi

Volunteers from Lyondell's Corpus Christi, Texas, plant recently lent a hand to help spruce up downtown Corpus Christi in preparation for a major event at the nearby marina.

In a four-hour clean-sweep through downtown – dubbed Operation Paintbrush Downtown – Lyondell volunteers worked with 400 volunteers from local businesses, civic clubs, churches, schools and city departments. Together, they power-washed sidewalks, planted 3,200 plants, cleaned windows, picked up litter and painted buildings. Downtown debris filled four 10-foot by 40-foot city brush trucks.

"The Mayor of Corpus Christi has been supportive of Lyondell and the other port industry companies," said Plant Manager Mike Cain. "This effort was an opportunity to show our support and at the same time, help downtown look cleaner and better for visitors at the upcoming marina boat show."
