Community Involvement
Victoria Plant>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

Community Dialogue. Plant management meets with a Community Advisory Panel (CAP), a group of community members and industry leaders, to discuss community expectations and concerns. Also, we host a semi-annual Near Neighbor Dinner for nearby residents to learn about plant health, safety, environmental performance, and community activities.

Community Involvement. The Victoria Plant is actively involved in the community, including the Victoria Community Food Bank, Victoria Adult Literacy Council, United Way, Victoria Chamber of Commerce, Tender Loving Care, Victoria County’s Senior Citizen Association.

Volunteerism. Employees are encouraged to contribute their time and resources to valuable community organizations. Our employees are local emergency responders, scout leaders, coaches, and other members of key civic and community groups.  Each year, the plant and its employees help with numerous activities including a blood drive and a school supply drive. Also, each year, the company and its employees coordinate and host a holiday celebration for area senior citizens.

Education. Our employees can be found mentoring students at local schools, as well as, partnering with local school districts on a variety of educational initiatives including job shadowing and career fairs.

Plant volunteers conduct hands-on science activities in the classrooms, sparking student interest in science through Lyondell's Explore and Experiment program. Explore and Experiment, created by Lyondell and educators, is a useful resource for teachers. It includes lesson plans and activities for Kindergarten-12th grade, while meeting Texas TEKS and TAKS requirements. In 2006, the Victoria Plant partnered with Victoria ISD and hosted an Explore and Experiment Summer Science Academy aimed at increasing students' science skills.

The Victoria Plant provides two Excellence in Math and Science Scholarships to graduating seniors.

Global Care Day. In 2006, employee volunteers constructed a 'reward store' at the Boys and Girls Club in Victoria, Texas. This 'reward store' is part of an after-school program that rewards positive behaviors and encourages educational accomplishments, while promoting values and positive character traits.
