We consider our ability to operate in the North Channel community as a privilege. We take very seriously our responsibility to operate safely and protect the environment.
Since 2001, the Channelview complex has reduced its reportable emissions by more than 80 percent. While this is significant progress, we continuously look for ways to further improve our performance. We recently acquired equipment using advanced technology to detect invisible vapors that may escape from pipelines or processing units. We also invested $72 million in a new wastewater management system, which cleans processed and storm drainage water before it returns to the environment.
We believe all workplace injuries, illnesses and adverse environmental impacts are preventable. As a result, we will continue to invest in comprehensive health, safety and environmental programs to promote safe and responsible operations.
