Community Involvement
Cincinnati Technology Center>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

Volunteerism. Employees are encouraged to volunteer their time to key community organizations. They can be found as scout leaders, coaches, referees, volunteer emergency medical technicians and fire fighters.

Global Care Day. A team of employee volunteers and family members spent a Saturday in May, 2006, at Hamilton County Park District's Glennwood Gardens Park in Woodlawn as part of Lyondell's Seventh Annual Global Care Day event. Working in partnership with the Park District's Land Management Team, the Lyondell volunteers tackled mulitple projects. One team worked on removing invasive plants that are forcing out the native wildflowers, shrubs and trees. Other volunteers constructed a tree nursery to hold and nurture young trees and other plants for future planting at the park.

Philanthropy. Employees open their hearts and wallets to charitable community organizations. Company and employee donations to the local United Way campaign exceeded $88,000 in 2006. The site has been included among the United Way Tremendous 25 companies. The site also conducts an annual employee pledge campaign in support of the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund.

Education. Through a program called Explore & Experiment, volunteers provide hands-on science learning activities for thousands of area children in classrooms, libraries, camps and Scout meetings. The site has also hosted a number of teacher workshops to train local teachers how to conduct these same activities in the classroom. The company sponsors local teachers to the annual Technology in Education Conference where they learn new and exciting ways to teach chemistry. We also provide financial support to COSI to sponsor science learning activities and programs.
