Our commitment as a socially responsible company means that we operate our facilities in a manner that protects people and the environment and preserves our world for future generations.
Operational Excellence. Operational Excellence is Lyondell’s broadly institutionalized and disciplined management system to achieve reliable and measurable performance that enables us to drive continuous improvement in every aspect of our business. This management system includes the Manufacturing Operational Excellence Principles of Safety and Health, Environment, Quality, Reliability, Cost and Efficiency, People, and Community.
Safety Performance. We take great pride in the safety performance of our employees. In August of 2006, our employees achieved the milestone of working injury-free for three full years. In 2005, our plant was re-certified by OSHA as a STAR site, the highest level of recognition for safety performance and systems awarded by that agency. In 2005, the site received three safety awards from the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association for outstanding safety performance during 2004.
Emission Reductions. Reported emissions to air of Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) substances increased slightly in 2005 due to increased process knowledge and improved reporting methodology. These new reporting and calculation methods have enabled us to more accurately inventory site emissions.
Waste Reduction. Nearly all of our hazardous wastes are sent off-site for energy recovery as fuels for other processes. Hazardous waste generation decreased in 2005 as a result of improved process control.
Energy Efficiency. Our experts are constantly looking at ways we can be more energy efficient. The site has recently made process control improvements to an operating system that have resulted in annualized energy savings of over $250,000.
