Report to the Community. Periodically, community leaders are invited to a review of plant health, safety and environmental performance. This event provides an opportunity for plant management and community representatives to dialogue on issues of concern.
Volunteerism. Employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents to key community organizations. They can be found as scout leaders, coaches, volunteer emergency medical technicians and fire fighters.
Education. Through a program called Explore & Experiment, employee volunteers share their expertise with the community by conducting hands-on science learning activities in local school classrooms.
Global Care Day. During the company’s 7th annual Global Care Day event on Saturday, May 6, 2006, more than 30 employee volunteers and family members worked to make improvements at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center in Mattoon, Illinois. The volunteers erected a new flag pole, removed non-native invasive plants, constructed benches and picnic tables, and installed interpretive signs.
Philanthropy. Employees open their hearts and wallets to support local organizations such as United Way.
Scholarships. The plant provides $1,000 college scholarships each year to two graduating seniors at Tuscola High School who have proven to be outstanding scholars in the fields of math and science.
Summer Science Camp. The site has hosted several summer science camps for local elementary students. Site volunteers helped organize and conduct the three-day event that involved nearly 75 students. On the final day of the camp, students invited family members to share what they had learned. Attendees were also treated to tours of the plant.
