Community Advisory Panel. Plant management meets regularly with a panel of local residents to discuss community concerns and expectations regarding the Morris plant operations and regarding our business of chemistry.
Report to the Community. Periodically, community leaders are invited to a review of plant health, safety and environmental performance.
Volunteerism. Employees are encouraged to volunteer their time to key community organizations. They can be found as scout leaders, coaches, volunteer emergencymedical technicians and fire fighters.
Global Care Day. On Saturday, May 6, 2006, more than 70 employee volunteers, retirees and family members spent the day at Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area tending walking trails, planting trees, repairing a butterfly barn, and making other improvements as part of Lyondell's 7th Annual Global Care Day. This park is believed to be the largest native prairie area east of the Mississippi River and is a wonderful resource to residents of the region.
Philanthropy. Company and employee donations to local organizations and charities total nearly $80,000 annually.
Scholarships. The plant provides four $1,000 college scholarships to area graduating high school students who represent excellence in the study of math and science, two fields which are critically important to our business of chemistry.
Explore & Experiment. Morris plant employee volunteers conduct hands-on science learning activities in area classrooms through Lyondell's Explore & Experiment science outreach program. Thousands of area students have benefited from the science expertise of our employees. Our volunteers have visited schools in Shorewood, Minooka, Channahon, Morris, and Seneca.
