Community Involvement
Colonel's Island Plant>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for dialogue with our community and actively working to support community needs.

Community Involvement. Employees are involved in the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia School Council, the Brunswick-Golden Isle Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, the American Red Cross Brunswick Chapter and the annual United Way of Coastal Georgia industrial golf tournament.

Volunteerism. Employee volunteers help Special Olympics, the Keep Brunswick-Golden Isle Beautiful (Adopt-a-Highway), the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the Eric Poston Charity Golf Tournament and the Brunswick Stewbilee. Plant employees support Satilla Marsh Elementary School through the Partners in Education program and helped with its Field Day and science projects.

Lyondell Global Care Day. In 2006, nearly 50 volunteers created a wildlife habitat between two wings of Satilla Marsh Elementary School in Brunswick, Ga. The educational tool includes new trees, native plants and a pond. In 2005, employees worked at the Tidelands Nature Center, a University of Georgia 4-H Program on Jekyll Island that presents a living “outdoors laboratory” to teach people about the environment. A garden pond with a small stone waterfall and indigenous plants was installed to enhance the area for migratory birds and other wildlife and all materials were purchased by Lyondell.
