Community Outreach. The plant is a founding sponsor of the North Jacksonville Community Advisory Panel comprising local residents and educators who meet regularly with industry representatives. The CAP is facilitated by representatives from Florida Community College Jacksonville and provides a forum for dialogue on subjects including community expectations and concerns.
Community Involvement. The company is actively involved in local schools where programs target science and chemistry. Activities include science fairs, summer chemistry programs, teacher education, facility tours and classroom demonstrations. Other activities include local career days, community clean-up days, Earth Day and support of the United Way, Community Health Charities and the American Red Cross.
Volunteerism. Employees are involved in local organizations such as the Georgia/Florida Blood Alliance, American Diabetes Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Sulbacher Center for the Homeless.
Lyondell Global Care Day. In 2006, more than 50 Lyondell volunteers improved an inner-city center with general landscaping and interior beautification projects, such as assembling and installing shelves and bookcases, painting and replacing window panes. In 2005, Lyondell employees and their families volunteered to give a fresh look to Norwood Elementary School, with Lyondell purchasing all the supplies. The library was improved with fresh paint and new furniture, the entryway to the bathrooms was painted and the school grounds were cleaned and landscaped.
