The Maasvlakte plant is the largest PO/SM plant in the world where propylene oxide (PO) and styrene monomer (SM) are produced based on the unique PO/SM technology of Lyondell. The construction of this first PO/SM - plant of Lyondell in Europe was completed in the third quarter of 2003 and the plant was put in service in the fourth quarter. Lyondell and Bayer each own 50 percent of the plant with Lyondell serving as operator. The plant is located at the port of Rotterdam on a 60-hectare site located on Maasvlakte.
