Community Involvement
Fos-sur-Mer Plant>

We recognize that being a socially responsible member of the community requires maintaining an open door for community dialogue and actively working to support community needs.

Education. The site supports science education through partnership activities with local schools. Activities include participation in jobs or sciences forums, presentations given by Fos employees to local community schools and facility tours.

Community Outreach. Dialogue with communities is an on-going process. We are a member of the CYPRES (Regional Center for Public Information on Major Industrial Risks) and actively participate in the Seveso Information campaigns on Major Industrial Risks. Lyondell in Fos-sur-Mer is playing a key role in the development of the Fos/Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône CLIé (Commission Locale d’Information et d’Echanges) with our neighbor communities.

Community Involvement. Lyondell in Fos-sur-Mer is recognized publicly as a good citizen by local elected officials and nearby communities. Contributions support programs such as reforestation of forests which suffer severe fires in Provence, or computer equipment provided to local schools. The Earthwatch Educator Fellowship program has been provided for over 10 years, providing some 30 teachers with the opportunity to participate in scientific research all around the world and share experience with hundreds of pupils and community members.

Volunteerism. Fos employees are recognized for contributing in the community. Many employees participate annually in Lyondell’s Global Care Day. After previously completing projects in the environmental field such as tree planting or posidoniae re-implantation in the Mediterranean, the 2004 volunteers renovated an infant school in Arles which had suffered from severe floods. In 2005, employees cleaned up the Marais du Verdier, in nearby Camargue, from bushes that were overtaking on the reed vegetation, a favorite habitat for birds. In 2006, Lyondell employees teamed up with La Chrysalide association to trim trees in the park at Entressen and clear up some space in the shade for the benefit of mentally handicapped residents.

Philanthropy. Company donations to local charities support education and environmental projects as well as actions benefiting the disadvantaged for an annual total of $35,000. The Company Matching Gift Program enhances employees’ individual donations to charities.
