Lyondell Chemical Company supplies a complete line of aircraft deicing and anti-icing fluids to North America. Two types of deicing/anti-icing fluids are supplied by Lyondell.
Benefits and Applications
Deicing fluids, Type I, are sprayed onto the critical surfaces of an airplane such as the wings, flaps, and fuselage at temperatures above 140°F to melt ice and accumulated snow. Type I fluids are effective in deicing aircraft, yet will not provide long term protection from the reformation of ice, snow, frost, or slush on surfaces that are exposed to freezing precipitation.
Properties
Lyondell aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluids are primarily a blend of propylene glycol and water, along with proprietary additives and stabilizers.
Toxicology/Regulatory
ARCOPlus®/ARCTIC Plus® Type I Fluids meet the requirements of SAE Aerospace Material Specification (AMS) 1424 for aircraft deicing fluid.
Lyondell Chemical Company produces these Type I fluids: ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus and ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus Dilute at multiple locations in the United States.
ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus Concentrate must be diluted prior to use, and therefor may be used by customers with easy access to a water supply. Lyondell Chemical Company also supplies ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus Dilute which is pre-mixed with water to provide a freezing point of -30°F(-34°C).
All Lyondell Chemical Company deicing fluids contain propylene glycol (PG). The PG contained in ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus keeps the residual fluid from rapidly refreezing on aircraft surfaces by lowering its freezing point. The heat and pressure of sprayed ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus will melt and remove ice, snow, frost and slush from aircraft surfaces.
ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus deicing fluid offers worker safety advantages over other products because it is propylene glycol based and propylene glycol is less toxic to humans and animals than ethylene glycol based products. ARCOPlus/ARCTIC Plus is sold to all of the U.S. major passenger and cargo carriers as well as FBO's (Fixed Base Operators)..
