Styrene Allyl Alcohol copolymers (SAA 100™, SAA 101™) are used in polyester, urethane and alkyd coatings and in architectural coatings, such as acrylics, water-based and radiation-curable coatings.
Benefits and Applications
SAA copolymers are a hard, thermoplastic material with a low molecular weight. Because of their high hydroxyl and aromatic content, SAA copolymers enhance adhesion, gloss, weatherability, water-resistance, chemical resistance and hardness of most coating systems and inks. Polyester coating applications of SAA copolymers include appliance finishes, coil coatings and general-purpose baking enamels. Alkyd coatings include wood finishes, inks, industrial maintenance paints, floor paints and latex house paints. Manufacturers of automobiles, industrial equipment and farm machinery also apply anti-corrosion primers that include SAA copolymers. Other potential applications include powder coatings and water-borne formulations.
