Isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous) is an excellent, low-cost solvent, displaying a balance between alcohol, water and hydrocarbon characteristics.
Benefits and Applications
Manufacturers of consumer products use isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous) in preparing cements, varnishes, paints, printing inks and many other products.
Properties
Isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous)* is a colorless, volatile, flammable liquid with a very slight odor. Unlike ethyl alcohol, it has a bitter taste, some undesirable side effects and little ability to produce exhilaration. As a result, the U.S. government does not regulate or tax its manufacture or sale.
*Lyondell's isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous) is a non-USP grade material.
Storage and Handling
Isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous) is extremely flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flame, other ignition sources or oxidizing conditions. A release may cause an immediate fire/explosion hazard. Liquids/vapors may ignite. Extinguish all ignition sources. All equipment used to handle this product must be grounded.
Avoid substances such as strong oxidizers, acetaldehyde, chlorine, ethylene oxide, acids and isocyanates. Isopropyl alcohol (anhydrous) is slightly irritating to skin and moderately to severely irritating to eye.
