When Daniel ventured across the pond to join Lyondell several years ago, the Brit was pleasantly surprised at the winter offerings in Pennsylvania.

“I love that skiing and snowboarding are a short two-hour drive away, yet the summer brings tons of water sports at local lakes and rivers,” he said. “I also enjoy the local history and great local restaurants.”

Daniel's education, past experiences and interests are part of the diverse culture that Lyondell embraces. He grew up in Leeds, England, and completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry at Nottingham University in England and a doctoral program in chemistry at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

The main drivers of the culture are the focus on safety and excellence in everything we practice.

At Lyondell, Daniel is a principal researcher in Process Research and Development, where he works on new catalysts to support current business processes and operations and develops new processes for future business operations.

“As a project lead at Lyondell, my research is integrated into developing an idea into a working process,” he said. “My role allows me to be involved in a variety of projects that are both challenging and rewarding.”

Part of that reward also comes from serving the community Daniel has become so fond of since moving to the United States.

“I’ve been fortunate to participate in Lyondell’s Global Care Day and United Way activities, such as planting trees in local environmental hot-spots and improving local care facilities,” he said. “The organization shows a real commitment to community service.”
